This large kerosene lantern is an Aida Model 1500, 500cp. Aida was a brand name of J. Hirschhorn AG, Berlin, Germany and in 1928 it was taken over by Ehrich & Graetz who continued to use the Aida brand. Most of this Model 1500’s parts were made of brass with nickel plated.
Is one was found locally, here in the Puget Sound. It is untested. The nickle plate has areas of oxidation – see close-up photos. Original glass – no cracks or chips.

Yes, that’s right. Today is the first day of fall. How did that happen so quickly? No lie, I will miss the hot, sunny days of summer. But the truth be told, I can hardly wait for pumpkin spice pancakes, spiced cider, hot chocolate and Thanksgiving dinner with loved ones.

All year long we’ve been keeping our eyes out for cool, vintage, Halloween items.
This year we found vintage Witch motionettes, Lemax Spooky Town Village items, Candles, Masks, Skulls and even a few shark teeth.
One of my favorites are the die-cuts. If I have a little spare time I think a wonderful way to display them is framed, behind glass. I’d love to mount them on black paper and frame them…… until I have time, tho – I’m offering them, as is, to you in our store. I know they’d make an awesome addition to your Halloween decor – framed or simply tacked on the wall – old style.
We put our Halloween inventory up on the first and it’s been flying off the shelf. Watch out for that flying witch, she’s gonna clip you!!

One of the purchases I put on my list of equipment upgrades was a ring flash.
It’s a round flash unit that mounts on the end of your lens and syncs by a hot shoe attachment. I bought mine on eBay for about $40.00.
Mine isn’t very powerful – I don’t think any are because they are meant for ultra-closeup photos. I love it so far! They difference is very subtle but I can see it. Because I only have room currently for a two light set-up, the ring flash allows me to position them for best general lighting without losing details in the front (if I need the light to be on the sides or backs). Here’s an example of a Christmas Ornament – with and without.

The one on the left is without the flash, one on the right with. Notice the detail, especially on his red apron where typically the shadow darkens and obscures.
